Director Enrique Rottenberg’s outlandishly surreal dramedy follows the story of Itzik Finkelstein (Moshe Ivgy) – a 40-year-old ‘loser’ who still lives at home with his mother. To date, Finkelstein’s whole life has been a successive string of failures. Following his latest business disaster which involved imported keychains in the shape of a monk who, when pressed, pops his penis out – Finkelstein sinks into an even deeper depression when one of the ill-fated keychains suddenly comes to life. Now, standing before him is a monk who only he can see. With the latter’s help, Finkelstein launches his vendetta against everyone whom he holds responsible for his failures in life.
The film won a total of seven Ophir awards, including Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Director, whilst supporting cast members, Dvora Kedar and Esteban Gottfried, each took home the evening’s top honours in their respective categories.
