A Barbash Bros film, based on a script by Benny Barbash (which, itself, is an adaptation of Barbash’s debut novel, The Great Awakening), and directed by Uri Barbash. The War After delves deep into the trauma of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Assi Dayan plays a Brigadier General who is facing a commission of inquiry following his conduct during the war. His only hope of being exonerated is the testimony of the brigade’s operations officer who, unfortunately is in a coma. The chilling testimonies, along with his encounters with bereaved parents whose sons were killed under his command, start to untether him, gradually chipping away at his image as colonel, soldier, and commander. In the process, cracks also start to appear in the onscreen persona of the fearless native Israeli (‘Sabra’).
