Ahead of the release of director, Shmuel Imberman’s film, it was suggested that Overdose is in fact based on the life and death of Israeli actor, Mona Silberstein, who became dependent on drugs and tragically died of a fatal overdose. In the end, however, Overdose featured a purely fictional storyline: girl next door Dana (Limor Goldstein) is taking her first steps in the world of film and acting. When she meets Shuki (Amos Lavi), a drug addicted actor, the pair start a relationship and soon thereafter, she too begins her descent into substance abuse. The film was produced with support and funding from Israel’s National Antidrug Taskforce.
