This hit dramedy explores the unlikely friendship between Miry (Mili Avital); a widow living in a mundane, lifeless rut and “Noodle” (BaoQi Chen), her maid’s son whom she leaves at Miry’s place one day before going off the grid. When her maid fails to turn up, Miry learns that she had been deported back to her native China after being detained by immigration authorities. Miry, her sister, and her friends all team up and embark on a journey whose sole purpose is to reunite “Noodle” and his mother. In the process, Miry is plucked out of her humdrum, day-to-day existence and is finally jerked back to life. Ayelet Menahemi’s film that marked the director’s return to narrative filmmaking after a 14-year hiatus won the Special Grand Prize of the Jury at the Montréal World Film Festival, whilst Anat Waxman took home a Best Supporting Actress Ophir award for her portrayal of Miry’s sister, Gila.
