An Israeli Film Service documentary about the Habima Theatre.
Fifty five years since its establishment, the Habima Theatere’s first actors still play in its performances. But alongside the veterans, a younger generation gradually takes the stage. This film captures the shift change in Israel’s national theatre and reviews its history: from its early days in communist Moscow to the performances in Habima’s newly renovated building in Tel Aviv. The bulk of the footage comprises excerpts from theatre performances Waiting for Godot, The Dybbuk, Aunt Liza, and The Gypsies of Jaffa, interviews with actors, and clips from behind the scenes.
