Producing the newsreels was a gruelling, Sisyphean undertaking as this video demonstrates with this rare look at Nathan Axelrod’s Tel Aviv studio in action. Not only was the film printing and copying done manually, the tiny studio space also didn’t have any electricity, whilst the artificial lighting was replaced with a system of lenses pulling the outside light in.

Behind the scenes of the Carmel newsreel production process. Aaron Bloch, Nathan Axelrod, Yehoshua Edri, Yehudit Bloch, Moshe Wechsler, and others during filming, sound recording, video editing, film drying and developing and additional technical actions related to the newsreel production.
