The story featured in this reel about temporary migrant camps where new immigrants were principally housed after the State of Israel was established is a prime example of the propaganda messages the political powers-that-be were looking to communicate to the public. And whilst the narrator does not turn a blind eye to the grim living conditions at the camp, the main focus of the piece is on a vision of the future: watermains lying at the side of the road just moments before they are laid underground, the younger generation’s hopes, etc. The piece about the convalescent home where the infirmed are rehabilitated before being sent back to the workforce is also very much on brand with Ben Gurion and his Mapai (later, Israeli Labour) cohorts’ socialist ideology. Even the poor storks must hurry on back to work…
