An Israeli film adaptation of German author, Heinrich von Kleist’s 1810 novella, Michael Kohlhaas. The plot of the film is set against the backdrop of the loaded and highly explosive weeklong period between Israel’s Holocaust Memorial Day and Independence Day. Moments before the annual Holocaust Memorial Day siren is sounded across the country, Michael Kleinhaus’s wife flips off an impatient driver who is behind them in traffic, hooting away. In response, the driver accelerates – hitting Kleinhaus’s car and tearing one of the doors off right off its hinges. Thus begins Michael’s extreme journey, in the course of which his life is completely upended – a fight for justice in the face of bureaucracy, the government, and the underworld. Foul Gesture won Best Film at the Haifa International Film Festival and was featured at various other festivals round the world, including the San Sebastián International Film Festival and the Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival.
