In the film that concludes the House trilogy, Gitai leaves the house on Dor Dor Verdorshav St., and embarks on a quest in search of its original occupants. He speaks to the same construction workers who had done the refurb 25 years earlier and meets with the current tenants. This time around, he accompanies the film with his own voiceover narration and delves deeper into the greater narrative arc that joins the three parts together. This brief history during which the tightly-constructed metaphor of the early 1980s grew increasingly more scattered, allows the creator to discuss the power of film; to explore all the finer details, images, and anecdotes and finally, out of all these convoluted branches, to weave together a meaningful, impactful story. This is a pensive film in which Gitai both unravels and reassembles the brief history of this one Jerusalem home as a broader metaphor for life in the Middle East that is rife with hardship, injustice, freedom, and tolerance in equal measure.
