The Loners, Renen Schorr’s second feature was made 22 years after the release of his debut film, Late Summer Blues. The plot of the film which is based on a true story, follows Sasha and Glory: a pair of lone infantry soldiers in the IDF’s Golani Brigade. One night, as the two go out to celebrate Sasha getting shortlisted for officer training, they are arrested for allegedly selling weapons to Hamas and are charged with treason. In prison, they are placed in the solitary confinement ward. After weeks of incarceration during which they were regularly humiliated, with their pleas for a retrial denied time and time again, the two decide to rebel. Before long, their mutiny gains ground and spirals out of control. The Loners was shown at South Korea’s Busan International Film Festival whilst in Israel, actor Sasha Agronov won an Ophir Award in the Best Actor category.
