Miki Kam is an accomplished stage and screen actor, singer, and comedian. On stage, Kam has appeared in just about every repertoire theatre production in Israel. She famously played the iconic role of Sally Bowles in Habima National Theatre’s production of Cabaret (1989), and Madame Thénardier in Les Miserables (2016), a role she shared (aka double-cast) with Hana Laszlo [her former castmate in the Israeli remake of The Golden Girls.] Kam also played Hanke in Gadi Inbar’s 2018 musical, My Mika.
Over at the Cameri Theatre, Kam starred in the productions of Brighton Beach Memoirs (2006) and Fiddler on the Roof (2008) where in the latter, she played Golda – a triple-cast role she shared with Sarit Vino-Elad and Hanny Nahmias. In 2011, Kam stepped back into her old ‘Weimarian’ stomping ground in the Cameri’s revival of Cabaret, this time taking on the role of Fräulein Schneider.
In 2013, she starred in Haifa Theatre’s production of the musical Billy Schwartz; a role for which she won an Israeli Theatre Award for Best Supporting Female Actor.
Throughout her career Kam has also headlined countless variety and one-woman shows including Miki Kam Period (1995), and Miki Kam Now (1999).
In 1986 Kam appeared in the ‘Arab Film’ episode of the timeless TV satire programme Zehu Ze [‘that’s it’] that instantly shot to cult status. Highlights of her other TV credits, both as actor and voice talent, include the Israeli version of Sesame Street [‘Rechov Sumsum’], The Littl’ Bits (Kam lent her voice to the character of Willibit), Kidd Video, Snorks, The Eight [‘Ha-shminiya’], Our Song, The Israeli version of Strictly Come Dancing, By the Wedding [‘Ad Hachatuna’], and the local version of The Golden Girls, playing the Dorothy Zbornak character. Kam earned a Television Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Nechama in the drama series Shtisel.
Highlights of her film credits include Halfon Hill Doesn’t Answer (Assi Dayan, 1976), A Movie and Breakfast (Alfred Steinhardt, 1977), Summertime Blues (Renen Schorr, 1987), Passover Fever [aka ‘Leylasede’] (Shemi Zarhin, 1995), Kicking Out Shoshana (Shay Kanot, 2014), And Then She Arrived (Roee Florentin, 2017), and Sublet (Eytan Fox, 2020).
In the army, Kam made the lineup of the famous Nahal Band (aka The Nachal Troupe) and it was there that she met future husband, Yehuda Eder, who was playing guitar for the band. The couple have two sons: musician Alon Eder, and actor Nadav Eder.
