A parade in honor of Independence Day is held in Haifa. More than a quarter of a million spectators stand on the sidewalks, balconies and rooftops. Viewers include diplomats and military annexes, tourists and minority community representatives. President Yitzhak Ben Zvi, Prime Minister David Ben Gurion and Chief of Staff Moshe Dayan stand on a dais saluting military jeeps carrying various IDF brigade symbols. A convoy of trucks carrying guns and mortars, followed by armored infantry vehicles and Sherman tanks. An IDF orchestra plays while marching, followed by various infantry unit soldiers and representatives of the air force, navy, police and womens corps. The Haifa Municipality Youth Orchestra leads a dance parade. Thousands of dancers perform various folk dances. Among the dancers is a dance troupe of Yemeni immigrants, a group of nurses in uniform and dancers dressed as fishermen.
