On 24 September 1945, mere months after the end of WWII, an anti-Jewish plot was hatched in the town of Topolakani, Slovakia. The plan, put together by local groups who were supporters of Aryan racial supremacy ideology, sought to hound out of town all death camp survivors who had returned to their homes after the war. And so, Jews who had just clawed their way out of Nazi hell, were yet again facing persecution and humiliation – this time, at their own neighbours’ hands. Today, not a single member of this once-formidable community remains. The sole surviving testimony of its existence is the old Jewish cemetery.
