Faye Dunaway stars as Faye Milano, an American journalist who arrives in Israel to cover the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on behalf of the newspaper for which she works. During her visit, she meets an Israeli reservist (Amos Kollek) who takes a fancy to her, and the two soon become romantically involved. At the same time, she also befriends Shafiq (Makram Khoury), a Palestinian activist and his nephew, Mustafa (Mohammad Bakri). Over time, the more she gets to know people on either side of the argument, her preconceptions and prejudices as to the reality in Israeli start to shift as she comes face-to-face with the complexity, humanity, and violence of both sides.
The film also features documentary footage in the form of interviews Faye conducts with a host of prominent figures in early 1990s Israeli and Palestinian politics, including then-Jerusalem mayor Teddy Kollek, Hanan Ashrawi, Abba Eban, Ziad Abu-Zayyad, and late fundamentalist Rabbi Meir Kahane.
