The story of a Christian boy who is brought to Israel from Ethiopia during the mid-1980s covert Operation Moses (in which thousands of Ethiopian Jews were smuggled out of famine-ridden Sudan) and is then adopted by a family of French immigrants. Viewers ache with him as he experiences harsh, racial abuse but also rejoice over the way his adoptive mother becomes fiercely protective of him. Along with him, we attempt to shirk off identity, only to gain it back in the end. Romanian-French director, Radu Mihăileanu, sets out to portray the Ethiopian immigration experience in its entirety which adds what is truly the fullest spectrum of emotions to his film. He is further aided by a comprehensive cast of talented actors and high production value.
