Four years after the phenomenal success of his 2007 directorial debut with The Band’s Visit, Eran Kolirin returned with this abstract and contemplative follow-up. The Exchange brings us the story of Oded, a physics PhD student who comes home one day to pick up a bag he’d left behind. He gets home at a time when no one is usually in and suddenly, everything around him seems foreign and alienating – the house, his wife, his life… himself even. With that, Oded embarks on a transformative existential journey, accompanied by his quirky next-door neighbour.
The film was up for a Golden Lion award at that year’s Venice Film Festival and was shown at countless other festivals around the world, where it won multiple awards including the FIPRESCI Prize at the San Francisco International Film Festival. Actor Rotem Keinan who plays Oded, won the award for Best Male Lead at the Haifa International Film Festival for his performance in the film.
