The film adaptation of Yoram Kaniuk’s novel of the same title. An Israeli artist leaves his wife and daughter in New York City and heads back to Israel after many years away. He is determined to get to the bottom of his underlying sense of failure in life – as a person, a family man, and an artist. His closest friends all died in the war; his paintings burnt down; his family, he himself walked out on. He decides to make a film about himself, his parents, Tel Aviv; all the things that the puzzle we call ‘human life’ is made up of – only to set fire to his own creation in the end. Rocking Horse became the first Israeli film to have been featured at the Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight section.
