Josie Katz is an American-Israeli singer and actress. Katz, a US native, moved to Israel at the age of 19. She shot to fame in the 1960s with her then-husband, Shmulik Kraus, when the pair teamed up with Arik Einstein and formed pop trio, The High Windows. And though the band only released the one album, each and every track on it, including You Can’t (‘einech yechola’), Ezekiel (‘yehezkel’), and The Whole Week for you (‘kol hashavua lach’) became staples of Israeli music to this day. Katz was also in the band, Cape of Good Hope, and later teamed up with The Dudaim folk duo, Israel Gurion and Benny Amdursky, to form the hit trio, The Good, The Bad, and the Girl. All throughout, Katz carried on recording a string of solo singles, and continued to tour with Kraus and a host of other artists.
Katz also starred in Israeli TV cult programme, Lool, where she and Arik Einstein duetted on the timeless song, What about me? (‘ma iti’). Highlights of her film credits include: Take off (Uri Zohar, 1969), The Dress (Judd Ne’eman, 1969), Shablul (‘snail’) (Boaz Davidson, 1970), and Rockinghorse (Yaky Yosha, 1978).
