Assi Dayan directed this comedy of errors, the script for which he co-wrote with his regular writing partner throughout the seventies, Naftali Alter, who also scored the soundtrack. Joseph, a hotel porter in the seaside town of Netanya who lives in a rundown old shack, learns that his daughter Shelly, whom he’s not seen since she was a girl, is in the country from New York to seek him out. The only problem is that through the years, in their correspondences, Joseph’s always told her that he is a wealthy man who has made his fortune importing and exporting goods.
Shelly ends up staying in the hotel where her dad works. To keep up the pretences, Joseph ends up having to impersonate a businessman. The hotel’s entire staff, manager included, all come to his rescue and treat him as their wealthiest ever guest – indeed, a king for a day.
