Vasermil tells the story of three hard-living teens from the southern city of Beer Sheva, in search of a path between hope and despair, with their only apparent lifeline being football. Shlomi lives with his widowed mother, younger sister, and stepfather, and works as a courier at a pizzeria. Adiel, a member of the local Ethiopian community, is looking after his younger brother and ailing mother while Dima, whose family came to Israel from Russia has an unemployed father and a mother who works as a cleaner. The three of them are recruited by the local community centre’s football team coach, ahead of the annual youth football tournament finale that’s set to take place at the city’s Vasermil stadium. The tournament has also been known to serve as a showcase for talent scouts and winning is the boys’ only chance to be called in for tryouts by premier league side, Hapoel Beer Sheva FC, thereby securing their future. Winner of the Jury Favourite Award at the 2007 Jerusalem Film Festival.
