A documentary exploring the surrealist art of Yosl Bergner, Batia Apollo, and Samuel Bak. The film, which leans into numerous surrealist movies in its aesthetic, features video footage of the artists, their works and creative process at home and in their studio. Bergner discusses his various inspirations behind his paintings and their literary aspect; Apollo explores the struggles that are part and parcel of her creative process, whereas Bak describes his attempt at infusing his paintings with a layer of intellect.
The Flower and the Stone was produced with the help of experimental artist and cultural figure Joav BarEl who served as a consultant on the film. Between 1971-1972, BarEl developed and created a series of films for Channel 1, along with filmmaker and avantgarde artist Jacques Katmor and cinematographer Amnon Solomon. Their films were steeped in the art and critical thinking of their time, focusing on a range of working artists (male and female) and their artistic oeuvre.
