Have You Heard About the Panthers?

Directed by: Nissim Mossek

Jerusalem, 1971. Nissim Mossek, a then-young, up and coming editor on Israeli television, follows the just-formed Israeli offshoot of the Black Panthers movement in its campaign to challenge and shift the country’s social order and hierarchy. Mossek documents those at forefront of this fight – young men from the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Musrara – and the working class, impoverished communities for whom they were advocating and fighting. For years, Have you Heard About the Panthers? was though to have been lost, until a rare copy of the film surfaced at Jerusalem’s Cinematheque in the early 2000s, three decades after it was originally shot.
