Jonathan is left home alone whilst his parents are out at work. In the next-door flat, the neighbours are having a row. Their screaming and shouting prompt the boy to try and restore the peace and help the two reconcile. The See-Through House showcases the depth and breadth of director, Ayelet Menahemi’s grasp of the film medium, and her indelible ability to tell a story through image and soundtrack that engage the viewers’ every sense. The storyline’s premise, in which the drama is carried almost entirely on the shoulders of one young actor – is given the most outstanding treatment here, thanks to a combination of cinematographic choices, strategic use of the soundtrack, and just the right pace. The result is a short and fine-tuned drama which remains every bit as punchy and entertaining, over three decades later.
