Arik Kaplun is a former USSR-native, Israeli director and screenwriter. During his studies at Tel Aviv University’s Department of Film and Television Studies, Kaplun directed a number of shorts. Those were then followed by his first, and as of now, only feature-length film, Yana’s Friends (1999) which follows a romance between a Russian new immigrant and a native Israeli man against the backdrop of the First Gulf War. The film enjoyed both critical and commercial success. It was shown at various festivals around the world and took home a whopping 10 Ophir Awards, including Best Director and Best Script.
