Yossi Madmoni is a director and screenwriter. Madmoni took his first filmmaking steps with his schoolmate, David Ofek, with whom he co-created the critically-acclaimed and lauded drama series, Bat Yam – New York. The films that Madmoni would later go on to make, such as The Barbecue People for instance, which he co-directed with Ofek in 2002, featured the same recurring themes that were already prevalent in Bat Yam – New York, i.e. the clash between the old and the new, intergenerational gaps, and tradition vs. progress.
His film Restoration, (2011), was shown at many festivals around the world including the Sundance Film Festival where it won a Screenwriting Award, and the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival where it took home a Crystal Globe. The film also clinched three awards at the Jerusalem Film Festival, including Best Israeli Feature. In 2013, his film, A Place in Heaven came out. Then 2018 saw the release of Redemption, a film he had co-directed with Boaz Yehonatan Yaacov. The film was shown both at the Toronto and Karlovy Vary International Film Festivals; at the latter, actor Moshe Folkenflick won the Best Actor award for his role in the film.
