Shuli Rand is an actor, screenwriter, director, lyricist, and singer. Rand began appearing in a host of film and stage roles during the 1980s and by the end of that decade, he was already a critically-acclaimed, household name. He carried on into the ‘90s, landing a string of starring stage and screen roles but in the late 1990s, Rand became orthodox and stepped away from acting for the next few years. Then in 2004, Rand wrote the screenplay for Gidi Dar’s Ushpizin which he also starred in – a film that marked the actor’s grand return to the Israeli culture scene. Rand’s Ushpizin role subsequently won him an Ophir Award in the Best Actor category.
Highlights of his stage credits include Hamlet, Woyzeck (directed by Rina Yerushalmi), The Dybbuk (directed by Andrzej Wajda), Three Sisters, The Seagull, Richard III, Angels in America, Pollard’s Trial, and A Family Story. Highlights of his film credits include: The Appointed (Daniel Wachsmann, 1989), Eddie King (Gidi Dar, 1992), Newland (Orna Ben-Dor Niv, 1994), Marco Polo: The Missing Chapter (Rafi Bukai, 1996), and The Unorthodox (Eliran Malka, 2018). Rand’s performance in Life According to Agfa (Assi Dayan, 1992) won him an Ophir Award in the Best Actor category.
Rand’s musical career also includes a string of highly successful LPs and singles, including the album Nekuda Tova (‘good point’), featuring the hit single Ayeka (‘where art thou’).
