Raanan Alexandrowicz is a director and screenwriter. A graduate of the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School, in 1997 Alexandrowicz directed his graduation project, Only in a Handful of Cases (‘rak b’mikrim bodedim’), which won awards both at the Kraków Film Festival, and at Lodz’s Gdynia Film Festival.
Alexandrowicz is predominantly a documentary filmmaker; however, in 2003 he wrote and directed the narrative feature film, James’ Journey to Jerusalem, which won multiple festival awards including top honours at Bergamo Film Meeting, Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani, and Oslo Films from the South, as well as two Ophir Awards back in Israel for Best Actor that went to Arieh Elias, and Best Music which Ehud Banai took home.
His 2001 film, The Inner Tour, was shown at some of the world’s most prominent film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival, IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam), and the Sundance Film Festival, and also earned a Special Mention at the Doc Aviv International Documentary Film Festival. His 2011 film, The Law in these Parts, also became a global festival darling, taking home awards at the Sundance Film Festival, and at the Jerusalem Film Festival where it won Best Documentary. Highlights of his other film credits include Martin (1999), and The Viewing Booth (2019).
