Amos Kollek is an author, screenwriter, actor, and director. Kollek, the son of legendary Jerusalem mayor, Teddy Kollek, studied psychology and philosophy at Hebrew University. In 1979 he adapted his own novel, Worlds Apart, into a screenplay that was later made into a film directed by Barbara Nobel and starring Kollek, himself. He also wrote the lyrics to the two hit singles on the film’s original soundtrack, Don’t Ask me if I Love by David Broza, and First Date (‘pgisha rishona’) by Ilana Avital, both of which were composed by Nurit Hirsh.
Kollek made the majority of his films in the US where he lived for many years. His 2000 feature, Fast Food Fast Women, made the official selection for that year’s Cannes Film Festival, whilst his 2008 film, Restless, did all the major international festival rounds and went on to win the Prize of the Guild of German Arthouse Cinemas at the Berlin International Film Festival. Highlights of his other directorial credits include Goodbye, New York (1985), Forever, Lulu (1986), Double Edge (1992), Kollek (aka Teddy Kollek) (1995), and Happy End (2003).
