Aya Somech is a director and editor. Her graduation project at Tel Aviv University’s Department of Film and Television Studies, Questions of a Dead Worker (19min, 2002) received huge critical acclaim. The film was showcased at a range of prominent, international film festival, taking home multiple awards, including the top honours at Cannes Film Festival’s third most important section – the Cinèfonation.
Highlights of her other directorial credits include Eva is Leaving (17min, 2010), which won the Short Film Grand Prize at Cinemed – The Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival, and the documentary, Under the Rug (2011), which won cinematographer, Daniel Kedem, the Best Cinematographer award at the Doc Aviv International Documentary Film Festival.
Highlights of her editing credits include Oded Adomi Leshem’s Snail in the Desert (2009) (aka ‘shablul bamidbar’), and Tali Shalom-Ezer’s 2009 film, Surrogate.
