Ofir Trainin is a documentary filmmaker and director. An alum of the Sapir Academic College’s School of Audio & Visual Arts, after graduating Trainin returned to his academic home as a documentary film teacher. In 2010, he directed his feature debut, Wandering Eyes, which follows the story of musician, Gabriel Belhassen [who passed away in 2013 – EE]. Wandering Eyes won the Best Film Award at the DocAviv International Documentary Film Festival, as well as the Best Film Debut and Best Music awards from the Israeli Documentary Filmmakers’ Forum.
In 2018, Trainin directed Family in Transition – a documentary that follows Amit, a husband and father of four’s male-to-female gender transition journey. Family in Transition took home the Best Film Award at DocAviv, in addition to being featured at countless festivals around the world where it went on to earn a Special Mention at the SIMA Awards and the Mediterranean Documentary Film Festival. Highlights’ of Trainin’s other directorial credits include Someone to Love (2005), ApolloniA (2015), Colours of Hate (2017), The 74th Space (2022), and The Landlady (2022).
Alongside his filmmaking body of work, Trainin has also directed a number of extended feature stories for investigative reporting TV programme, Real Time (‘zman emet’), including the feature, Their Life’s Journey, which won Best Extended Feature Story from the Israeli Documentary Filmmakers’ Forum.
