A public library, named after the American Jewish philanthropist Joseph Meyerhoff, opens in Katamon neighborhood, Jerusalem. The opening ceremony is attended by Minister of Education and Culture Zalman Aran, Mayor Teddy Kollek, and the Meyerhoff family. Deputy Mayor Shear Yashuv Cohen affixes a mezuzah at the entrance to the library.
