Israel Beer, a military historian and associated with the top figures of the Israeli Defense Ministry, is accused of spying for the Soviet Union, and is brought to the Tel Aviv Magistrates Court for extension of his arrest. His detention is extended for another 15 days, and a friend of the suspect soeaks to him before he is transported back into custody. Beer was a Haganah fighter, released from the IDF at the rank of lieutenant. He raised suspicions over the years among a number of high-rank officials in the security department and finally in April 1961 the Israel Security Agency revealed his meetings with a Soviet agent operator in Tel Aviv. His arrest caused astonishment in Israel, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for severe espionage and died of a heart attack in Shatta prison in 1966.
