During the War of Independence, Palestinian residents of Menashiya left or fled Jaffa and their homes remained abandoned. After the war, Jewish citizens moved into the homes. In the past few years, the entire area is undergoing demolition and renewal, but a number of homes remains inhabited by families with children. Most of the new tenants have no alternative housing solution and are forced to live in dilapidated, half-ruined buildings, with no functioning infrastructure or safe play areas for children.
