The Chief Rabbinate Council in holds an emergency conference in Jerusalem, in response to the Supreme Court ruling on Major Benjamin Shalit. Major Shalit, who is married to a non-Jewish woman, sought to list his children as non-religious but having a Jewish nationality, officials at the Ministry of Interior refused to do so, and Shalit appeals the Israeli Supreme Court, which ruled rules that Shalits children should be registered as Jews. This ruling is regarded scandalous among members of the Chief Rabbinate of Israe. The meeting is held in the presence of officials of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, the rabbinical court and the Minister of Religious Affairs Zerach Warhaftig.
