On Histadrut’s tenth anniversary, the organization’s General Convention gathers for the tenth time. The convention’s opening ceremony is held in Tel Aviv in the presence of President of Israel Zalman Shazar, government ministers, and hundreds of delegates. Histadrut’s secretary general Aharon Becker and Shazar deliver speeches. They are followed by Mayor of Tel Aviv Mordechai Namir and Danish Foreign Minister Per Hækkerup, who greet the audience.
The convention’s closing ceremony takes place four days later. Resolutions adopted by the Convention include the raising of the standard pay in the Israeli industry, and changing Histadrut’s official name from “General Federation of Jewish Labour in Israel” to simply “General Federation of Labour in Israel”.
