Hebrew Book Week opens in Haifa with a conference held in a large hall. Local politicians, writers and poets sit on stage at the presence of a large audience. Haifa Mayor Abba Hushi and Haifa Workers Council Secretary Yosef Almogi address the audience. The poet Abraham Broides cuts a ceremonial ribbon to open a book exhibition at the Borochov Library. Hundreds of guests visit the various publishing houses displays, including Bialik, Am Oved, Masada and Yavne.
