The promotional film The Arava Desert, produced by Keren Hayesod the United Appeal for Israel, shows how the Arava turned from an arid desert into an area that provides the State of Israel with many resources and contributes to the development of its economy. Announcer, Benjamin Doukarsky, tells how the kibbutzim based on the Negev land began to develop while emphasizing finding agricultural, and hydrological solutions, and utilizing natural resources to the maximum. The film incorporates videos from the first years in which Jewish settlement began in the Arava, and tells how, out of lack of choice, the pioneers of settlement managed to find solutions to revive the desert. Although this area is characterized by warm weather and saline soil, the Arava settlements have developed agriculture and created green areas that provide fine agricultural produce that is mostly intended for export to Europe. Many people, including David BenGurion, Professor Shimshon Isser, and scientists from various fields, have contributed from their experience and fulfillment of the vision of settling the Negev, and the development of many factories such as the Dead Sea factories, the desalination plant in Eilat and the Post Factory in the Zin Desert.
