This avant-garde animated film was directed and animated by artist Arié Mambouch alongside his wife, Nina Mayo, with poetic narration penned and provided by Ukrainian-French writer and Holocaust survivor, Piotr Rawicz. Focusing on afforestation efforts in Israel, made possible by the Jewish National Fund, the short film describes afforestation laborers as men who have taken up arms in combat against the smothered land and deadly sun, in hopes of recreating a land which engenders life. Photographs of afforestation laborers at work are shown alongside abstract animated sequences, which symbolize the wasteland coming into bloom, the cyclical and regenerative properties of nature, and the hope represented by the tree and the forest, as a kind of blessing and promise of new life against all odds.
