A film produced by the Joint Distribution Committee to raise donations.
Dalia, one of many children born in Hara – the Jewish quarter in Tunis – smiles, but such a smile is rare in Hara, where poverty, neglect, disease, and hunger make life difficult for Tunisian Jews. As part of an effort to rehabilitate the neighborhood, the Joint Distribution Committee, with funding from the United Jewish Appeal, provides medicines, the OSE organization distributes milk to babies, and the ORT organization sends teachers and resources to educate the neighborhood’s children. All in coordination between the Joint and the leaders of the Jewish community in Tunisia. With the assistance of an emissary from the Paul Baerwald School of Social Work in France, more advanced educational methods have been introduced in the kindergartens, and the smiles of Dalia and the other children are becoming more frequent.
