Mordechai Keren Zvi, a member of Kibbutz Neve Ilan, presents the story of the kibbutz’s establishment to the JNF supporters of Long Island. In the winter of 1946, 40 veterans of the French Resistance movement founded a new kibbutz on the Judean “Hill of Stone.” The film showcases the initial settlement efforts, the struggles against the Arab residents of the area, and the development of agriculture on the rocky soil. In addition to its technological and agricultural achievements, the film highlights the emergence of a unique Hebrew-French culture within the thriving kibbutz society. The film concludes with a glimpse into the future as Mordechai briefly discusses the new conflict arising over the Children’s House. In doing so, he provides a glimpse into the conflicts that occurred in Neve Ilan and was a part of the reasons for its dissolution in 1955, only three years after the production of this film.
