A newsreel From the Spielberg Archive the film documents the funeral of 323 victims of the War of Independence in Jerusalem The funeral was a joint public funeral of victims of the War of Independence whose remains were buried outside Israeli borders After the war ended Israel through the military rabbinate, made efforts to bring the bodies to burial in Israel the 323 were buried on Mount Herzl It was the first funeral in the cemetery The film describes the funeral service held in the center of Jerusalem, the crowd of tens of thousands who came to pay their respects, and the convoy of trucks laden with coffins on its way to Mount Herzl The film also documents the digging of graves in the cemetery A narrator accompanies the film in English and brings the translation of the speech delivered by the chief rabbi of Israel at the burial ceremony
