This silent footage offers a glimpse into the city of Safed in the early decades of the State of Israel. Although Safed was damaged heavily during the battles in 1948, it began to recover immediately after the war. The footage captures the city’s alleys, the remaining ruins, and the young children in the rejuvenated city. It also presents the artists’ quarter established by painters and sculptors drawn to Safed’s unique charm. The film also features the artist Alexander Stefan, who presents some paintings.
