A documentary about former prime minister Levi Eshkol, produced by the Israeli Film Service shortly after his death.
Levi Eshkol’s biography is entwined with the history of Zionism. He worked in the fields shoulder to shoulder with the pioneers of the Second Aliyah, chaired the Jewish Agency’s Settlement Department when myriads of new immigrants required housing solutions, took part in planning the National Water Carrier when the Negev Desert settlements grew ever thirstier, was Minister of Finance when Israel gradually withdrew from austerity, and Prime Minister during the glorious victory in the Six Day War. Politicians, military officers, diplomats, economists, and settlement activists talk in this film about the leader, who was also famous for his unique sense of humor.
