October 1973 would have been the original commercial release date of this documentary which follows David Ben Gurion in his twilight years whilst offering viewers a rare glimpse of the places, people, and events that shaped both his life and the future Jewish State, from the day he immigrated to Palestine back in 1906, onwards. However, the war that then broke out changed the face of the nation, as well as the fate of the film that would spend the next 42 years shelved and collecting dust. It was only in 2015 that the estate of late film producer, Zvi Spielmann decided it was time to step in and take over. They got their hands on the 16mm rolls of film which they then had restored, before finally releasing the film to the general public. The film reveals a series of fascinating encounters with a range of statesmen including Yigael Yadin, Ariel Sharon, Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, and Teddy Kollek, as well as the 1973 Yom Kippur War’s tragic heroes – Golda Meir and Moshe Dayan. In the film, director Simon Hesera also uses rare archive footage in which Ben Gurion is seen with the likes of Sir Winston Churchill, Harry S, Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhauer, John F. Kennedy, Charles de Gaulle, and many more. English subtitles.
