This deeply personal work by director Dan Wolman is a film within a film. In The Director’s Angst, Gadi – a young director, arrives at the premiere of his debut film. He struggles to bring himself to go into the cinema during the screening and instead, spends most of it outside with a cashier he’d met at the venue who helps him alleviate some of his stress and anxiety. The second film (within a film), The Operation (based on Wolman’s play of the same title which he opened at Israel’s Acco Fringe Theatre Festival), follows a war-torn country whose harsh political reality ended up chasing away all musicians – save for the local cellists. Meanwhile, leaders of the resistance in said country are plotting to swap the Prime Minister’s heart with another’s during a surgical procedure, in the hopes of turning him into a better, more benevolent man and leader.
