Director Isaac Zepel Yeshurun’s film takes a sad, sensitive, and poignant look at the lives of teenagers in a 1980s boarding school. Teenage boys and girls, Jews and Arabs, Ashkenazis and Mizrahis, older and newer generations – all are cloistered together at the boarding school in a highly flammable situation, rife with tensions and violence that could erupt at any given moment. The film follows the daily lives of the boarding school denizens; teachers and students alike who, together, comprise a form of microcosm of Israeli society with a focus on two main protagonists: Enrique (Alon Aboutboul), a violent teen from the slums who is in love with an unattainable girl in his year, and the principled Alex – the so-called ethical teacher who is trying to educate his students, with little to no success. The actor playing Alex is author Itzhak Ben-Ner in this, his one-and-done big screen appearance.
