A big screen adaptation of Amos Oz’s letter-themed novel of the same title. Ilana reconnects with ex-husband, Alex, who now lives in London, after their anarchist son ends up in trouble with the authorities. Just like in the book, the film version of Oz’s novel relies on the concept of the black box as a way of piecing together the circumstances behind an accident that had happened. The exchange of letters that are read out in voiceover narration, coupled with flashbacks from Ilana’s and Alex’s married life provide all the pieces of the puzzle that ultimately help decipher the information stored in the black box.
