At Lod Airport, Herut movement protesters await the arrival of Abba Eban, the Israel Ambassador to the United States. The demonstrators carry signs against Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. Eban disembarks his plane along with the former French Minister of National Defence Jules Moch. The following day, Eban briefs the government of an American compromise plan between Israel and Egypt, according to which Israel will withdraw from Gaza, and the Americans will send merchant ships to the Suez Canal to ensure it remains open. At the end of the government meeting, Prime Minister David Ben Gurion proclaims in a Knesset session that Israel wishes to further negotiate the American proposal.
