Upon his landing at Lod Airport, the former West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer is received by Foreign Affairs Minister Abba Eban and Knesset Member David Ben Gurion. Afterward, the guest and his hosts speak in a press conference in a lounge. Outside the airport, dozens of Israelis protest with posters against Germany. The next day, Adenauer is awarded honorary membership of the Weizmann Institute of Science. Meyer Weisgal, the director of the institute, and President of the World Jewish Congress Nahum Goldmann are present in the ceremony. Later, he meets with Prime Minister Levi Eshkol in his office in Jerusalem, in the presence of Israeli diplomats and West Germany Ambassador to Israel Rolf Friedemann Pauls. On his third day in Israel, the chancellor visits Yad Vashem museum and places a wreath on a memorial.
