On the third day of the Suez Crisis, the Egyptian destroyer Ibrahim al-Awal attacked the Haifa port area. After a counterattack by the Israeli Navy and the Israeli Air Force, the Egyptian destroyer surrendered and was towed by naval vessels to the Haifa port. About 200 Egyptian crew members captured during the attack are concentrated aboard the destroyer. An Israeli soldier raises the flag of the Israeli navy on the Egyptian ship approaching the port of Haifa.
